About STEC

STEC is located in Chantry Street Goulburn, between Tully Park Golf Course and North Oval. Goulburn is two hundred kilometres from Sydney and 100 kilometres from Canberra, making STEC an ideally located venue for training, conferences, meetings or workshops. STEC is a Registered Training Organisation and delivers training in a variety of areas, depending very much on demand. STEC can also tailor accredited & non accredited short courses to suit requirements. A list of courses and services that STEC offer can be found by following the links.


The Objectives of STEC

The primary objective of STEC is: To facilitate and support curriculum and professional development, emphasise and promote national education priorities, and encourage active collaboration of parents and the community in order to increase the quality and quantity of education, training and skills throughout the various levels of education in local and regional communities.

The other objectives of STEC are:

To facilitate the improvements in the quality of teaching by providing teachers with the following opportunities:

  • Exposure to current education, literature, innovations and teaching techniques, overseas research and other relevant data.
  • The organisation of teacher meetings, discussions with feedback of experience and ideas, sponsorship and arrangements for new projects, special meetings.
  • Discussions, in-services courses, seminars as specifically requested, e.g., curriculum, development.
  • The co-ordination of teacher activities between schools and areas.
  • Assisting teachers to understand the particular problems, needs and culture of the children of the Southern Tablelands region
  • The collection and co-ordination of information from all available resources at schools, universities etc.
  • Initiating participation in research into educational problems relevant to the people of the Southern Tablelands region.
  • To inform the above education groups of the existence and functions of the Centre, and their possible contributions to the Centre.
  • To liaise with teachers and relevant community welfare services and community groups.
  • To liaise between teaching associations and associated professional groups.

to provide the opportunity for greater community involvement in educational processes through the following:

  • suggesting and soliciting ideas and programmes aimed at increasing participation in educational institutions.
  • providing forums, courses and discussion groups involving teachers, parents, pupils and other interested people with the purpose of familiarising these groups with the problems others face in education, and encouraging interaction of ideas.
  • assisting the community either collectively or individually with any problems regarding educational organisations, by acting as liaison and resource body.
  • providing educational groups with necessary facilities, resources, information and expertise;
  • helping individuals further their own education by collecting information on courses being conducted, and on people willing to teach particular skills: thus enhancing an exchange of skills and knowledge;
  • providing a resource service for educational agencies seeking information about the Southern Tablelands region;
  • to collaborate with wider community groups such as the members for state and federal parliaments, the chamber of commerce, the local Councils an services clubs on matters educational and commercial, as they relate to the members of our community.
  • to sympathetically examine and promote, where appropriate, any other programmes and activities put forward bypeople from the community.

The Structure of STEC

STEC is a Cooperative governed by a board of directors who are elected by members. The day to day affairs of the organisation are managed by a General Manager who is appointed by the board.
The board meets monthly.
